is athens safe ?
Is Athens a safe city? Yes! the safest. but Since it is really a big city I will give you some information.
When initiated by public transport and generally when you walk in the center it would be better not to have money and wallet in a pocket or in a bag that u will not see.
I mean dont put ur bag on your shoulder , go to Subway and then wonder who opened the bag.
Generally they do not steal in Subway but with tourists.... there is an issue since it is usually loaded with money, I mean just be carefull a bit it is not a big deal :)
There no areas you should avoid. All of athens is a safe city.
If you listen to various theories , do not pay attention, simply walk in main streets in down town athens near omonia (which it might me not that nice) .
Athens is like almost all cities of the world there are drug addicts.I wonder why ? maybe couse the state it is own control them (see usa in afhanistan )

you will find drug addicts in a number of areas but even if you can not find them they will find you to ask for your money wherever you are
. My advice is one:dont stop walking for anyreason reason and not give them anything since they will ask 4 more ,So do not stop and walk, a strict eye look it might also make them to stop annoying you .
As you can see we are in a very safe city and I would say that your safety is the last thing that should be a concern.
Let me make a parenthesis for U.S. and steit department with instructions occasionally to all visitors of Athens.
What the says is the U.S. State ntiparntemt is : Dont state late at night out and specially stay out of the area of Exarchia. This is really big lie and I will advise not to hear what they say . they think that we deadly hate the Americans.Thats a lie maybe we have some issues with the us goverment but not with the people , that for sure and who ever tell u such stories , dont listen to him ever again .
It is easy for governments to take out travel advice, pressing situations, but believe me
We are friendly and good with all either American or Arab.
